The University of Oxford and its colleges want to ensure that students are selected solely on the basis of their academic ability and that everyone, from whatever background, has an equal opportunity to succeed at Oxford. As part of their commitment to this ideal, the University and colleges have agreed the following statement:
The University of Oxford and its colleges seek to admit students of high academic ability and potential. Except in respect of the college admitting women only, all selection for admission takes place irrespective of sex. All colleges select students for admission without regard to marital status, race, ethnic origins, colour, religion or social background. Decisions on admission are based solely on the individual merits of each candidate and the application of selection criteria appropriate to the course of study. Admissions procedures will be kept under review to ensure compliance with this policy.
